In this particular situation we will show how this person had dental implants to replace both of her missing front teeth.
Implant Surgery
The first step in this process is to have the implants (the artificial titanium root) placed in the bone. This is a minor surgery that can be completed in the office, often in less than an hour. Patients typically have minimal discomfort after surgery.
Once the implants are placed, they need to heal for two to three months before attaching the final abutment and crown (the tooth portion) to the implant.
Implant Restorations
Once the implant is healed, the restorative process begins. Your dentist will take a shade to get the color match of your tooth correct. The dentist then also take an impression so that an exact model of your teeth can be made for the lab can make the abutments and crowns.
The Lab Process
The dental laboratory now uses the model made by the dentist to make a custom implant abutment and then the custom crown that goes on top of the abutment. This whole process typically takes three weeks.
The Final Result: A Happy Patient
The last step is to place the abutment and crowns on to the implants.
